Shambala Nature Retreat Center Surrounds

The area of our Nature Retreat Center is completely encircled by forest, offering complete seclusion and privacy. Next to the meeting house is a 35m diameter lavender maze, orientated on the Buddhist mindfulness practice, which is in bloom from December to January with thousands of bees humming away.

The yoga shala is located in a separate dwelling circa 50 meters from the meeting house and the next two it is are 2x composting toilets (& additional dam water showers), which help us save thousands of liters of precious rainwater every year, as does our greywater re-use system which irritates the gardens and around the meeting house and shala.

The area also offers direct access to the adjacent state forest as well as to walking trails around our property leading through different sections of bush as well as fields in which our rescue menagerie of friendly cows and horses who call this place their sanctuary may greet you.

Tour Shambala's Woodland Hive

The Woodland Hive (previously 'The Meeting House'), the main dwelling of our retreat center,  has been designed and built eco-consciously in a way that can only be described as a luxury holistic retreat for like-minded seekers to enjoy this Paradise – a place for people to come together, meet each other, and themselves more deeply, relax, heal, restore and grow spiritually.

It has been designed, drawing from Steiner's architectural principles which inspired the octagonal shape and spiraling staircase, and is solar-passive (meaning double-glazed large windows catching the rays in winter keeping the entire space cozy, while it stays nice and cool throughout the hot summer months). It features a stunning central fireplace and an open plan design inviting meaningful connection, also through a luxurious yet minimalistic design. We have thought of everything you may need for a comfortable group stay in nature that allows you to unplug, while minimizing distractions and overstimulation through unnecessary technology. While you won't find a TV here, you won't miss it as you get lost in our library of thousands of books, enjoy a cup of tea watching birds, or having fun with board or lawn games.

As the intention of this land and space is to simply be. here. now. there is no WiFi, but reception with Telstra is good enough for hotspotting (weather dependent - keep in mind we are out bush!)
The surrounding "courtyard" features a woodfired pizza oven (to be used outside of fire-ban season only) and a long table setup perfect for communal meal- or creative time.

Woodland Hive Upstairs Mezzanine: Sleeping Alcoves

The upstairs mezzanie of the Meeting House features six private sleeping alcoves, sleeping a total of 10 to 12 people. These are divided by slidable eco-plywood walls and are either twin share or single: The first (1) and last (6) alcove - which is located right next to the upstairs bathroom featuring a basin, toilet and shower - contain one single bed each. The second and fifth alcove each hold one double bed (with comfortable ecosa mattresses) + one single bed; and alcoves three and four each hold two single beds.
Every bed nook has a bed side table, hooks & coat hangers and bedside lamp on its window sills.

The mezzanine is made from stunning marri timber floor boards and bush poles which have been sustainably harvested and milled right on the property.

If desired, an additional two day-beds (which are the same make us the upstairs jarrah bed frames) can be set up as beds with linen, upon request.

The Yoga Shala

Nestled amongst our marri and jarrah forest and next door to the Meeting House is our Shala.

A safe and sacred space to hold you,

ground you, nurture and open you,

as you journey through explorations of body, mind and spirit.

The Shala is around 90 sqm large, features timber flooring, two large roller doors opening the space up towards its foresty front yard in the warmer seasons, features 4 large double-glazed floor-height windows looking out into native forest to the west and has access to the attached tea kitchen and bathroom. The compost toilets are located right next door.
The shala features dimmable ceeling lights, large warm-light festoon fairy lights and of course – an abundance of plants! (as our plants keep shifting, multiplying and growing it is hard to keep up to date with photos!)
We provide the following yoga props: circa 12 organic cotton yoga bolsters, 12 natural tree rubber and jute yoga mats (these are not that slip proof for stronger yoga practice, most ideal for yin and meditation and stillness!) and circa 20 cork yoga blocks and cotton straps. Cotton blankets are also available, that are circa 120x150cm.
